Winnie George Obituary

February 10, 1932 Winnie Pauline Strong was born in Birmingham Alabama to the late Willie and Isaac Strong. She was the last of her 8 siblings to be called home.

Affectionately known as "Paul" (Pauline) by many, she attended Catholic grade schools and was a graduate of Miles College in Fairfield Alabama. She later received her Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling from John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.

After her relocation to Cleveland, Ohio she married the late Warren Stewart George. They had one daughter, Winifred.

She accepted Christ at an early age. In Cleveland, Ohio she was a member of Holy Trinity Baptist Church under the late Pastor Henry J. Payden, Sr. who conducted her wedding ceremony and baptized her daughter.

For over 31 years Winnie was employed by Cleveland Public Schools working in various schools as a very passionate Math and Science teacher as well as Department Head. For years she ran into her previous students who thanked her for her positive influence on their lives. Her "no nonsense" teaching style touched many. She retired in 1985 and enjoyed 35 years of retirement, 4 years more than her working career!

Winnie was a loyal sports enthusiast and also an avid bowler. For many, many years she was on several bowling teams as well as a traveling league where years of friendships were made. Less than 5 feet in stature and full of flare, her zest for fashion, life and family, uniquely brought a full home of bright red carpet and an unmatched wardrobe of outfits and shoes.

Her love for her family was unmatched and you could always find her and her siblings sitting around a table together, talking all at once while R&B music was playing loud. Oh what a time they are having together now!

Winnie also pioneered her family’s very first Strong/Kynerd family reunion in 1989 out of which came the slogan…

"Let’s Gather Together, Celebrate Together and Love each other Forever!"

She touched many lives with words to encourage, and she will truly be remembered for her passion for living life, loving family and pursuing education. Her unforgettable laugh can still be heard!

On Friday, January 8 2021 she transitioned to her heavenly home. She leaves to mourn; 1 daughter Winifred Alexander (Sam), 1 granddaughter Courtney Faith Alexander, 6 nieces, 6 nephews and a host of cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends.
