Obituary

Ms. Valerie J. Martin was born February 14, 1957 in Cleveland, Ohio. She is the eldest of four children born from the union of Harvey W. Martin Jr. and Helen E. Head. She was proceeded in death by both parents; brothers: Rick Diveen Martin and Max Harry Martin.

God was very instrumental in Valerie’s upbringing and so she was baptized at an early age. She attended John Adams High School from 1970 till 1973. In August of that same year she had her first child, Demetrius L. Martin followed by Fawnda J. Martin in October of 1978.

As a single parent she wanted nothing more than to better herself and her family. She found employment at the Onaway House located at 14603 Milverton Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44120 where she was employed as the head secretary for the facility. Building her family, she moved to the Buckeye area where Harvey J. Martin was born in September of 1980. As a house wife she continued to expand her family and soon 2 more children were born Eric J. Martin in November of 1983 and Helen E. Martin in December of 1984. Having a strong belief in education, Valerie signed up for classes in word processing at Dret Vocational College from 1986-1987, ultimately accomplishing her Associates Degree. After a short break to focus on her beloved family, she was offered a job that not only provided more opportunity for her family, but gave her more ways to expound on her education and life skills. She accepted this position and became the building superintendent of her own 32 suite apartment building on 85th and Euclid. For several years she held this title. Finding and traveling all roads of productivity she applied to McDonald’s located at the main campus for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation on Euclid Ave. She absolutely loved this job and the job loved her. She held this employment until her sight failed her in 2003.

Valerie will always be remembered for her contagious laugh, enormous sense of humor and distinct young voice. She always carried a bubbly attitude and was a positive and fun person to be around. Reading, knitting, singing, cooking and calligraphy were just a few of her hobbies. She had a love for animals and gossip, as well ...... Above all, we will always remember her passion for family. Valerie was a generous, loving, kind mother, grand-mother, great grand-mother, sister and friend.

Valerie went home peacefully on Wednesday morning September 23, 2020. She leaves to cherish her memory, her brother: Michael Paul Martin, five children: Demetrius L. Martin, Fawnda J Martin, Harvey J. Martin, Eric J. Martin, Helen E. Martin, 2 sisters-in-law, 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
