On the afternoon of September 2,2023 at 12:25pm, Turner Slaughter Jr. passed away peacefully at the Singelton Nursing Facility.
Turner Slaughter was born on August 19,1928 in Tallulah, Louisiana to the union of Turner Slaughter Sr. and Catherine (nee: West) Slaughter. He was an only child and always missed not having any siblings.
Turner was a Highschool graduate and after graduation he decided to join the United States Army during the World War ll Era where he received an Honorable discharge. After his separation from the Army , he returned home. In 1948 he met and married Catherine West whom he loved until her passing. They were together for over 50 years.
Turner and Catherine were blessed with six children: Frank, Bessie, Turner III, Lawrence, Ricky and Edward. Four children preceded him in death before moving to Cleveland, Ohio.
While in Louisiana, he worked on the Fairy Boat transporting cars across the Mississippi River.
After moving to Cleveland, Ohio he worked for Grable Manufacturing and later Bailey Controls where he remained until retirement.
Turner and Catherine were one of the original founders of the Grace Missionary Baptist church where he became a Deacon under the leadership of the late Walter Boykins.
Turner loved to dance, play cards, and try to repair things that were broken.
Turner leaves to cherish his memory; children; Turner Slaughter lll and Bessie Slaughter Tate. Grandfather of 13 and great grandfather of 4 , brother in law; Harold Carter of Sacramento, CA, sister in laws; Maggie Wright of Birmingham, AL and Betty Ross. Son in law; Odell Tate and two daughter in laws; Pamela Slaughter and Jo Slaughter and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends and a special friend, Wanda James.
He will truly be missed…..
