Sylvia S. Hendricks was born December 27, 1937 in Port of
Spain, Trinidad to Albertha Samuel. She grew up with her brother
Leon. She went to school to become a nurse and studied at Bethnel
Green School of Nursing in London, England (UK).
In 1962, she met Leslie A. Hendricks, Sr. and they were married
March 31, 1962 in London, England.
She accepted Christ as her Savior. She and Leslie were members
of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Warrensville Heights, Ohio
for 50 years. She sang in the choir and belonged to the Shepherd’s
Ministry.
She enjoyed gardening exotic flowers and loved to crochet and
sew. She also loved to travel to many destinations around the world,
including the Caribbean and Mediterranean (cruises including Panama
Canal and many more), Europe, the Far East: Hong Kong, China,
Thailand, and around the United States and Canada, traveling by
plane, train, and automobile. Sylvia not only had a gift of gardening,
she loved to cook her West Indian cuisine for her family. She always
had a basket full of mangoes and a pocket with Tamarind balls.
During the holidays, she passed down the tradition of making
Rum cakes and baking homemade bread and Trinidad Sweet Bread
which she always gave to our family, especially her brother.
Sylvia leaves to mourn her loving and devoted husband Leslie
A. Hendricks, Sr. who were married for 60 years. She also leaves to
mourn her children, Keith, Leslie Jr., and Lisa; brother, Leon Samuel;
grandchildren: Claire, Kylie, Lia, Le’Nia, Leslie III, Li’Ana, Michael,
and Angel; and 14 great-grandchildren.
