Ruby Evelyn Talbert (nee Felton), was born November 11, 1925 in Macon County, Alabama to the late Seymour and Mary Ella Cason Felton. She was the eldest of seven children.
Ruby was married to Laverne R. Talbert on September 11, 1948. To this union, four children were born. They were married 63 years before he departed this life in 2011.
Ruby was educated in the Macon County public school systems. She graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School in Macon County, Alabama.
Ruby accepted Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh A.M.E Zion Church in Auburn, Alabama. She later became a member of Olivet Institutional Baptist Church, Cleveland, Ohio; under the pastorate of the late Reverend Eugene Ward. She was an active member of the Elizabeth Circle Missionary Group.
In 1989, after 22 years of service, Ruby retired from Cleveland Clinic Hospital and spent much of her time with her husband going to dinner, movies and travelling.
Ruby will always be remembered for her gentleness, grace, and kindness toward others. She had a deep love for her family and cherished the time she would spend together with them. She was a dedicated mother and was simply and wholly committed to her role as mother.
Ruby was an avid and passionate cook and was happiest when she was preparing meals for her family and friends. It was her passion, and she took great pride providing delicious meals for those she loved.
Ruby went home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2022 at 96 years old. She was predeceased by her parents, Seymour and Mary Ella Cason Felton; Her husband (Laverne) and son (Charles W); a sister Millie O. Jones, and a brother Rufus “Sonny” Felton.
She leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memory three daughters: Gwendolyn R. Harris (Jesse) of Powder Springs, Georgia; Deborah D. Talbert Wright of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and Marsha L. V. Talbert Weaver (Kevin) of Twinsburg, Ohio.
Four sisters: Sarah Bivins of Hockessin, Delaware; Hattie Rowell, Dorothy Felton and Patricia Felton of Auburn, Alabama. Two sisters-in law: Helen Felton of Detroit Michigan and Arcola Felton of Auburn, Alabama, one brother-in-law Napoleon Jones of Gary, Indiana, and an Aunt Marie Cason of Auburn, Alabama.
Five grandchildren: Brandon A. Harris; Charles W. Talbert, Jr; Brittany C. Harris Gilchrist; Kevin J. Weaver; and Ashley-Nicole R. Wright Gibson; Seven great-grandchildren, God daughter/niece, Janice E. Jenkins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
