Richard “Rick” Edward Reynolds was born March 26, 1960, to the union of the late Richard Reynolds and Merlyn Reynolds-Blackwell in Cleveland, Ohio. Rick accepted Christ and joined St. Mark's Presbyterian Church at an early age. Rick was educated in the Cleveland Public School System and is a proud graduate of John Hay High School.
Rick at an early age loved running and would outrun all the neighborhood kids. When Rick got to FDR Junior High School, he decided to run track and broke records there. Rick wanted to continue his track career and went to John Hay High School where he became a “Star Track Athlete”. Rick was a top runner of the 100-yard dash with a record setting time of 10.4 seconds. The record was not only a high school record, but a State of Ohio, Track and Field High School division record.
Rick because of his track skills, received a full scholarship in Track to Southeast Missouri State University, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Rick while in college broke several school records. Not only did Rick break records in track, but he also excelled academically and received a bachelor’s degree in 1982.
Rick while always loving to be number one, sought out the First Black Greek Letter Fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He sought out, pledged, and was initiated as a Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., XI Gamma Chapter, on October 31, 1981, while at Southeast Missouri State University.
Rick, after college remained in Missouri working various jobs. He returned to Cleveland and began his career of over 17 years with The City of Cleveland working for Cleveland Hopkins Airport, and Community Relations Board where he was the 5th District Representative. What made this work special for Rick was because this is the area where he grew up. Giving back and helping the residents meant a lot to him.
Rick, because of his record-breaking track accomplishments, was inducted into the John Hay High School Hall of Fame, individually, as well as with his teammates. Rick was also a great golfer and won several competitions.
Rick had a passion for fashion and style and took pride in his attire. He was always sharp from head to toe, from a sharp brim cocked to the side, all the way to the “gator” cowboy boots. Because of his fashion, Rick won best dress at various events and fashion shows.
Rick had a smile that would light up the room and make everyone feel at home. He loved to dance, especially hand dancing, and stroll with his Alpha brothers. He was known to his family for making the “best” greens for the holiday dinners. He was also very astute about politics. Rick helped Politicians that he felt cared about the people in the Community.
Rick’s pride and joy was his sister Dana. Rick was not only Dana big brother, but he was her caretaker. Since they were kids, you wouldn’t see Rick without his sister Dana. People thought that his track skills were natural, but they were also learned after chasing after his sister Dana, the true track star of the family.
One of Rick’s proudest and happiest moments was the birth of his son, Myles Edward. Rick was so proud of Myles and all his accomplishments. When Myles was in high school and on the Basketball Team, he told everybody about how well Myles was doing and for them to come to the games and see him play. Rick was a devoted and loving father to Myles until his demise.
Rick while on social media seen a childhood friend, Alana. Rick contacted Alana, they went on a date and have been inseparable ever since. After a long courtship, Rick married the love of his life, Alana who stood by his side through his sickness until his demise.
Rick transitioned from his earthly life to his heavenly life on Monday, May 29, 2023.
Rick leaves behind his loving and devoted wife Alana, son Myles, sister Dana, Aunt Frances, and a host of other family, his Alpha Brothers, and friends.
