Pretto Hayes Cain Webb

Pretto Hayes, was born November 23, 1919, to her parents Ripley Hayes, Luna Britt Hayes, Della Britt Hayes. 11 siblings preceded her in death: Will Hayes, Jesteen Hayes Lewis, Melvin Hayes, Myzine Britt Guess, Johnnie B. Hayes, Luda Hayes, Jeremiah Britt, Humbert Britt, Leon Britt, Ruby Mae Britt, Moses Britt.

Pretto excepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the family’s church St. Mark Baptist Church located in St. George, South Carolina. Pretto met and married Cullon Cain. Making a home in Cleveland, OH she continued serving Christ at New Light Baptist Church as a willing worker. After making a life and raising her children, she met and married Isaac Webb, who preceded her in death. She had since joined Bible Baptist Church.

Pretto worked several jobs throughout her life. The one she enjoyed and had a lengthy career until retiring in 1990 was with Montefiore Home where she served as a State Tested Nursing Assistant. She enjoyed nursing so much that she often accepted private duty assignments. As a faithful community volunteer, she supported the March of Dimes program for many years. Gardening was her greatest past-time and she never met a flower or vegetable she didn’t like.

Pretto was blessed to birth five children. Three have preceded her in death: John (Hayes) James, Akili Sanyika (Marzell Cain), and Michael Cain.  She leaves to mourn her daughters, Betty Hayes Bey and Linda Cain Green; sister Fannie Kearney; sister-in-law, Annie Lee Britt; nine grandchildren: Angelo James (Elaine), LaDon James (Kimela), Kimberly Tracy Cain, LaRhonda Cain Fearrington (Everette), Kenard Kent James – deceased (Eartha), Carlos James (Marie), Alicia Green, LaToya (Hayes) James, Ronald A. Green (La’Tanya); 24 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great grands; Highly favored nieces, nephews, and devoted lifelong friends.
