Patti Smith was born April 8, 1930 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio at an early age and attended Giddings Elementary and Central High School She was happily married to Richard, whom she affectionately called “Punkin” for 40 years. Richard preceded her in death. Patti was 90 years old when she passed on August 31, 2020 at Montefiore Nursing Home.
Patti worked at Cleveland Clinic for 39 years before retiring at the age of 62. She was a loving, kind and personable individual and people were drawn to her because of this. She had a magnetic personality. She never met a stranger. She would start a conversation with whomever she saw. She had an unbelievable sense of humor – sometimes unfiltered. She loved to shop and always made sure whatever she was wearing was fashionable. She particularly enjoyed watching old Western movies on TV and easily recognized and could tell you who the actors were. She enjoyed going to the casino to play the slot machines. She traveled when she could, but never by plane – always by bus or train.
She leaves to mourn her passing brothers George (Ruth) Slaughter and Howard (Eloise) Slaughter; sisters, Bonnie Slaughter and Charlotte Burke; daughter-in-law, Laverne Hill; best friend, Ruth Barnett; and special cousin, Charles Mosley. She had 2 grandchildren, Dorion and Erika Hill and 2 great grandchildren, Tristan and Layla Jackson. She was the aunt of Larry and Brandon Burke, Kim Bonaparte, Darryl, Leslie, Maria and Scott Ray and Johnna Johnson, Rick Hargraves and great aunt to many. Preceding her in death were her sons, Frederick Hill and Alfred Smith, and siblings John Ray and Codell Hargraves.
She enjoyed her life, her home and her family and friends. She will be sorely missed by all of us.
