Melanie Yvonne Chapman-Bowen was born on August 21, 1962 in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Vannie Chapman. She was the first and only daughter born to this union.
Melanie confessed her love for Christ at an early age and continued her fellowship at Second Mount Carmel Church on Kinsman Avenue. She attended Cleveland Public Schools throughout her life and graduated from John Hay High School in 1980.
On April 14, 1983, Melanie was blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Dartrell Chapman. She later married Samuel R. Bowen and remained his wife until passing. Melanie continued to strive for excellence in her career while working for the City of Cleveland. One of the highlights of her days while working for the city was having breakfast and lunch daily with her mother, who also worked for the city.
Melanie went back to school to work on advancing her career path in early childhood education and development. After graduation, she opened her own daycare center. She loved her family very much and she loved her church activities.
Melanie leaves to mourn her passing her loving son, Dartrell Chapman; stepchildren, Titus Dashields of Maryland, Breonna Bowen of Maryland and Darius Godwin of Delaware; stepmother, Lillar Chapman; three brothers, John Chapman, Jr., Byran (Jami) Chapman, and Andre (Tammy) Chapman all of Cleveland, Ohio; three nieces, Taffee, Alexis, and Marie Chapman; nephews, Jonathan and Alexander Chapman and a host of other family and friends.
