Leo Dowdell was born in June 18, 1932 in Cleveland, OH to the late Leo and Mary Dowdell. He attended Cleveland Public schools and graduated from East Tech High school. After graduating from East Tech, he was employed by Warner and Swazey. During that period he was inducted into the United States Army and served a period of two years. After his discharge from the army he was re-employed by Warner and Swazey and after a period of time, he became employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a railway mail clerk and transferred to become a letter carrier for the remainder of his 40 years of service upon retiring in 1997.
He was joined in marriage to Margaret Ruth Mason on November 10, 1956 in Keyser, West Virginia. To this union, God blessed them with a daughter Crystal Lynn and a son Craig Steven Dowdell.
Leo became a member of Saint John’s Methodist Church and transferred his membership to Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Leo was a 32nd degree Mason of Prince Hall lodge, Eureka Lodge #52, El Hasa Temple #28, Bezlee Consistory #15, Emmanuel Commander #22, K.T. Cuyahoga chapter #36 R.A.M, and Adoniram Counsel #1.
On March 21, 2021, Leo was called to a much greater life with his everlasting Father. He leaves to cherish his loving wife Margaret Dowdell of Bedford, OH, two children, Crystal L Dowdell of Coatesville, PA and Craig S. Dowdell (Bernita) of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren: Guy Tracey Dunn Jr., Courtney Megan Dunn, Malik Jaraad Dowdell Sr., Maiya Mason Dowdell; great-grandson Malik Dowdell Jr.; only sister, Geraldine Clark of Riverside, CA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Final Resting Place will be Cleveland Memorial Gardens immediately following the services.
