A beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother transitioned to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Allie Marie Taylor Mischal blessed this Earth for 95 years. Her story starts on October 6, 1925, in Augusta, Georgia, the youngest child to the late Lawton Heard and Augusta “Gussie” (Harris) Taylor. Marie’s love for the church started at a young age where the family attended Elam Baptist Church.
As a young child, the family moved to Cleveland, Ohio where Marie would grow up, make lifelong friends, get married and raise her family. Her love for the church continued at Antioch Baptist Church. She served as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord. Marie was an active member of several ministries such as the gospel choir, The Challengers Sunday School, bible studies, etc. Marie and her sister, Susan, attended the Schofield Normal and Industrial School in Aiken, South Carolina. The school was the center for Blacks which provided a simplified version of the classical course of study. She graduated in May of 1944.
Cleveland is where she would meet the love of her life, James Edward “Eddie” Mischal. Eddie was committed to proving his love to Marie and her family, most notably her father Lawton. Over time, Eddie won Marie’s heart and they married on September 12, 1948. Marie and Eddie were a loving, fun and adventurous couple. One would find them hanging out with family and friends, travelling across the United States, cruising on The Love Boat and, simply, enjoying life.
In 1950, Marie and Eddie welcomed their first child, Sylvia Marie. Two years later, they welcomed their second child, Bruce Edward. Family life was idyllic. Marie was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Marie built strong relationships and bonds with all of them with her warmth, caring and affectionate nature.
Marie worked various jobs but spent most of her employment with Caterpillar (formerly Tow Motor). She performed an array of administrative tasks supporting daily operations.
Marie’s grandchildren were her heart and joy. Marie and Eddie named all of their grandchildren — Sabrina Monique, Brittany Yvette, and Alexis Elena. There’s no denying, she adored her grandbabies and would do anything for them.
Marie was known for her compassion, kind-heartedness, and a beautiful smile that could light up any room. Her love for the arts heightened when she became a member of the Karamu House in Cleveland, Ohio. “Karamu” in Swahili means “a place of joyful gathering.” A perfect place for her to enhance her God-given talents for painting, drawing, quilting, and, of course, dancing. Loved ones that welcomed Marie are her husband Eddie Mischal; both her parents, Lawton and Gussie Taylor; and both her sisters, Eleanor Taylor and Susan Malone. Loved ones that will miss Marie are her children Sylvia Mischal and Bruce Mischal (Flor); her granddaughters Sabrina Dewalt (Wes), Brittany Mischal, and Elena Mischal; her great-grandsons Saejan Mischal, Cairo Jonas, and Julian Stewart. She will also be missed by her brother-in-law Kenneth Mischal, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
