Lois Cortner Obituary

Lois Marie (Jenkins) Cortner was born on July 19, 1929, in Cleveland, OH. She was the second  child to John and Rubie Lee (Dallas) Jenkins. Lois had 3 sisters- Cecilia, Betty, Dorothy and 1 brother John (all deceased). 

Lois graduated from Central High School in 1947. Soon after, she married Robert L. Cortner Sr.  Lois and Robert were married for 29 years until he died December 26, 1976. They had two children:  Janet Elaine Kennerly (Cortner) (deceased) and Reverend Robert L Cortner Jr.  Lois moved out of state often with her children and husband for his job. She lived and worked for the phone company in Cincinnati, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania a total of 35 years. She retired in 1984 and moved back to Ohio. 

Lois lived in Shaker Heights from 1984-1989 then moved to Warrensville Heights and lived there for 30 years. As a dedicated resident of Warrensville Heights, she became a member of the Warrensville Heights Seniors Police Academy. Lois was active with her club members who were her High School classmates. They traveled and had monthly club meetings for over 10 years. When she was not traveling on cruises and to casinos, she would go play cards at the community center. “Bidwiz” was her Game of Thrones and she was serious about winning. Lois was a dedicated sports fan. She enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, bowling and football was her favorite. From 1984-1988 she won 5 bowling trophies. She also enjoyed watching game shows, ghost movies and old cowboy westerns. One of her daily routines was walking up to the corner store to play her numbers. She also loved to clean and kept her home spotless. She loved babies and would often give them a dollar when she saw them. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Oakwood Village, OH. Her favorite foods were BBQ ribs, coleslaw, Turkey legs, cabbage, fried chicken, bananas, peanuts, cheese popcorn, chewing gum, chocolate candy and black licorice. Her favorite colors were Black & White. Lois was a beautiful, classy, sophisticated, kindhearted, generous, and intelligent lady. She was not afraid to speak her mind and would often let you know what she thought and how you needed to correct yourself. Lois was a dedicated, loving, supportive daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend.  Most of all a PHENOMENAL grandmother who will be dearly missed!

She leaves to morn her: Son Robert L Cortner Jr., Granddaughters Bridgette Marie (Battle)Hopson, Lauren and Lori Cortner. Great-Grandchildren: Edward, Vanessa and Donavan, Nakeia, Jeniyah, Breydon, Amari, Arianna, Kaiyla, Caleb, Kenyon and Callie. Great Great granddaughter – Alura. Twenty-Four Nieces and Nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
