Leonard was born in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Leonard Clarence, Sr. and Mae Frances Madden. He was educated in the Cleveland Public Schools.
Leonard’s father and uncle owned and operated the first black Shell gas station at East 145th Street and Kinsman. This was a full-service station where they sold gasoline, handled towing and automotive repairs. In addition, they specialized in washing and detailing cars. Leonard Jr. carried on this family business after this father’s passing for 50 years in Mentor, Ohio.
Leonard met and married the love of his life, Sandra, after dating for several years on May 27, 1994. Together they raised two sons: Marvin and Robert. He also leaves behind four grandsons; Royce, Terrell, Jaden, and Brandon Johnson; Goddaughter, Zaria Lamar and a host of relatives and friends. Leonard never had any siblings but through friendships, he had friends that he called his brothers and sisters. Charles Young, Johnny Acoff, Willie Young were his brothers and Juanita in Columbus, Darlene Young, Dee Acoff, Margaret (Candy) Ealy and Joyce Alexander were his sisters.
He loved the Lord and became a member of the Apostolic Church of the Living God. After his illness, he began listening to the church service on the phone on Sunday mornings. He would also attend the Tuesday Bible study. Through his faith and prayer, Leonard preserved through his health battles for many years. After a life well lived, he will be remembered for his laugh and love of Las Vegas. In celebration, we lay Leonard Clarence Madden to rest on Saturday, November 18, 2023.
