Karen Vaughn Obituary

Karen J. Vaughn was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Robert Vaughn and Gladys Vaughn (deceased) on November 8, 1978. She was the first of two children.

In 1997, Karen graduated from Bedford High School. After graduating high school, Karen went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Cleveland State University in 2002. In 2006, Karen received her Maters degree in Information System Management (MIS) from DeVry University. Karen moved to Charleston, South Carolina in 2011 to accept a position at CodeLynx as a Senior Software Engineer. In January 2020, Karen accepted a new position at JEAR Logistics. Karen remained a dedicated employee at JEAR Logistics until her passing.

Karen partnered with The Next IT Girl as a Charleston Chapter Lead in January of 2019. She assisted the organization with educating, mentoring, and the advancement of young women of color with all aspect of computer science and information technology. Karen was also a Mentor for the program Be a Mentor since October 2019. With the Be a Mentor program Karen was linked with a youth to develop a positive relationship, build long-lasting community connections, and enhance development of character and leadership skills in order to lay the foundation for success. 

Karen Vaughn departed this life at Roper Hospice Cottage in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina on Monday, May 16, 2022. She leaves to Cherish her loving father, Robert Vaughn, her sister Robin Vaughn (Timothy Jr.). She leaves her niece and nephews, Mahogany Howard, Ryan Howard, and Timon Howard, her partner, Gary Smith; and a host of aunts, uncles, and other relatives and friends.
