Joseph L. Sanders

Joseph Lummie Sanders Sr. was born on November 2, 1936 to the late Lummie and Beulah (Jenkins) Sanders in Cleveland, Ohio.  At a very young age his mother died, he then was raised by his Aunt Bessie Sadler and Cousin Myrtle Murphy.

He attended the Cleveland Public Schools from which he graduated.

He worked at Kroger for 15 years until the company relocated to the south.  Then he worked at Corlett Lumber for several years.  At the end of his workforce, he went to Nalco Diversified Technologies where he retired in 2003.

He was united in marriage to Marjorie Hicks on August 30, 1958 for 22 years and  four children came from that union. He then remarried to Janet Kosar in 2003.

Joseph accepted the Lord at an early age, he became a member of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of John H. Riggins.  He was a loyal member that served faithfully on the usher board and as a trustee, then he became a deacon for many years until his health no longer allowed him to serve .

He was very active in the Chagrin Falls Park Community. He always made you feel welcome if it was your first time coming to the center.  He became the Senior of the year in 2010 at the Geauga County Department of Aging.  He was the type of person that would help you regardless of the situation.

Joseph is preceded in death by his wife Janet Sanders; sister Catherine Morris; brothers Charles, Clarence and Lummie Jr. Sanders; and his grandson Brett Willis.

He leaves to mourn his children: Cheryl White, Dodia Sanders (Kenny), Regina Sanders (David) and Joseph Sanders Jr. (Dana);  his grandchildren: Isaiah White, Shavon Sanders, Maurice White, Randy Willis, Whitney Menefield, Haley Temple, Paige Parnell, Kayla Sanders; his great grandchildren: Robert Chambliss Jr., Joclynn White, Aden Sanders, Deontae Menefield Jr., Nevaeh White, James Menefield, Xavier Menefield, Adonis Ray Menefield, Londenn Temple and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
