Jerome Simpson Obituary

Jerome Simpson was born on August 28 1952 to Girlee Simpson and Leila Wright (Pointdexter). Jerome lived with his grandparents in Uniontown, Alabama until the age of 13. Jerome accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. Upon his return to Cleveland, Ohio he was enrolled in the Cleveland City Schools and graduated from Glenville High School. Jerome was employed by Ford Motor Co for 34 years until he retired.

Jerome loved all sports but had a very special love for basketball. As a young boy, he would play all the time while his friends would be off in the park doing other things. Early on in his career at Ford Motor Co, he played for the company team. Jerome would also play in the PAL and recreation leagues all over the city. He loved to watch his Bedford Bearcats, Glenville Tarblooders, the Cleveland Cavaliers where he was a former season ticket holder and last but not least, his guy Lebron James. You could always find him “at the game” with his buddy Craig, where he’d be draped in his Coogi sweaters, gator shoes, Cazal glasses, Kangol hats, Mink hats and mink coats. He was always sharp.

Jerome and Brenda met in high school and quickly became friends, but life took them in different directions until that one chance encounter at Ford Motor Co where they both worked brought these two together as best friends and life partners. Jerome and Bren, as he fondly referred to her, shared a love story like no other. They were more than life partners, they were soulmates and shared an unbreakable bond. Jerome and Bren shared the parenting of Jamaal who he affectionately nicknamed, Jack Rabbit. Jerome and Jamaal developed a true father-son bond that was strong from the start and never waivered. Jerome loved his entire family and there was absolutely nothing he would do for them.

On December 3rd 2018, the angel of silence whispered to Jerome Simpson in a still voice “my servant of god, well done”. His body is no longer in pain and there is no sorrow, and his body is at eternal rest. Jerome is survived by his father Girlee Simpson, his life partner and soulmate Brenda Whigham, son Leonard Jamaal Collins (Trinette) of Chicago IL, grandkids Jisaiah, Zoey and Triun of Chicago IL, sisters Barbara Ann Lacey of Rochester NY and Jolynn Huff (Gary) of Bedford Heights OH , brother Lilton Pointdexter Jr of Shaker Heights OH, aunts Mary Jefferson (Phillip) of Plano TX and Callie Benson of Detroit MI, his special cousin Steve Wright of Cleveland OH and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
