Henry Collins " Red" was born December 11,1940 to the union of Booker T.,Sr. and Luevinia ( Mitchell) Collins in Butler ,Choctaw County, Alabama.He was the fourth of five children.
Henry attended Berea High school where he was inducted into the National Honors Society and graduated in 1958.In December 1964, he received his Bachelors of Science in Education from Ohio State University.
Henry was baptized in 1951, at the First Baptist Church in Berea,Ohio. He attended church and Sunday School regularly and received awards for punctuality and regular Sunday School attendance.
Henry served in the United States Army from June1965 - 1967 where he received the National Defense Service medal and Marksman Badge.Henry was Honorably Discharged.After his military service, he worked as a Computer Specialist for the Defense Logistics Agency at the Defense Construction Supply Center in Columbus,OH. Henry retired September 30,1997 after 32 years of Federal service.
Henry " Red" was an excellent baseball player and at the age of 13 while playing with his Little League team, he pitched a NO - HITTER. His picture was on the front page of the Berea News.Over the years Henry obtained more than 25 trophies for baseball, softball and volleyball. Henry was an avid sports player.
Henry was a wonderful and caring person.
Henry passed away after a long illness, Sunday May 10 ,2020, 3:45pm at the St. John Medical Center. He leaves to cherish his memory, siblings; Marie Washington, Daisy Collins Russell ( Louis Sr.), Robert C. Sr. and the late Booker Jr. , nieces; Lisa M. Williams(Terry), Deneene A. Collins, Dawn S. Collins, nephews; Sidney A. Washington, Brian T. Collins, Sr. (Milicent), Robert C. Collins, Jr.( Lisa),Darren J. Collins ( Michelle), Demond J. Collins (Larissa); several great-nephews , great nieces and cousins; and many, many, friends and coworkers.:
