Hazel Pauline Montfort was born on November 15, 1933 in Terre
Haute, Indiana. She was the youngest of nine children, born to
George and Flossie (Phillips) Norton, both of whom preceded her in
death. She departed this life to be with the Lord on Sunday, January
29, 2023.
Hazel accepted Christ at an early age and grew up as a member of
Lost Creek Baptist Church She attended Otter High School and
received her diploma in 1950. She later moved to Cleveland, Ohio
where she worked for Ohio Bell/AT&T until her retirement in 1991.
Not the type to sit still, she began working at CDC Center for Dialysis
Care and remained there for several years.
Hazel was blessed with one daughter, two daughters by marriage,
and many grandchildren. She met and married the love of her life,
Daniel Montfort, in 1978. They were married until she left his side to
be with the Lord. Hazel and Dan loved to travel to new and exciting
places. Her most memorable trips were those to Africa, England
and France. She loved to cook big family dinners, topped off with
her signature dish of Macaroni and Cheese. She loved spending
time with her daughter and grandchildren, taking them roller-
skating, swimming, and to The Popcorn Shoppe in Chagrin Falls.
She also attended their many activities and sporting events, with her
camcorder in hand. While she loved doing all of those things, anyone
that knew her, knew that she could often be found beautifying her
home and making it spotless.
Hazel leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Daniel;
her daughters Diane (Todd) Russell-Hunter, Denise Hudson and
Donna Montfort; grandchildren, Anthony Scruggs, Jr., Olivia
(John) Mayfield-Davis, Tanner Mayfield, Christian Mayfield, David
Fletcher, Sierra Miller, and Jason Hudson; great-grandchildren,
Chaise Scruggs and Honesty Fletcher; and a host of family and
friends. She is preceded in death by her brothers, James Norton,
George Norton, Walter Norton and Orrville Norton; her sisters, Iona
Wilcox and Lillian Norton; her grandson, Steven Hudson.
