Hampton Louis Walker Jr. was born to Hampton Louis Walker and Elise Morgan Walker in Barnwell County, South Carolina on January 23, 1931.

The first of 11 children, he attended Elko Public School and received a diploma in 1946, after which he worked on the family farm. He enlisted in the US Army Ready Reserve on July 12, 1951 and as a private first class trained at the Army Engineering School in Murnau, Germany where he served with the 93rd Float Bridge Company.

Honorably discharged from active duty, he returned to South Carolina where he completed training in barbering and brick masonry. He married Lurania Brown and after the birth of their first son, they became a part of the Great Migration north, settling in Cleveland, Ohio where they had four more children. He worked as a mason with Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Ohio Local 5 union where he was a member in good standing for 50 years. He inherited the financially sensible nature of his mother, acquiring properties and contracting independently to construct projects in the Cleveland area.

Hampton was an athlete and an avid bowler, participating in leagues and winning multiple trophies until his Parkinson’s diagnosis made it impossible for him to perform at the level of excellence he desired.

Unwilling to allow the disease to rule his life, he remained active with friends and his spiritual home, Harvard Missionary Baptist Church.

Hampton entered into eternal rest on June 14, 2022 after a nearly 30 year battle with the disease. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons, Myron L. Walker of Garfield Heights, Ohio, Milton L. Walker and Michael L. Walker of Maple Heights, Ohio; two daughters, Veronica A.

Walker of Bedford Heights, Ohio and Brenda Jean Walker of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada; two brothers, James H. Walker and Lenson “Bip” Walker; four sisters, LueEster Douglas, MaryAnn Jenkins, Elaine Cheston and Elois Toler; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
