Gertha Moore Obituary

Gertha Mae (Gert) was born to the late Matthew and Lillie Hull on September 11, 1933 in Hattiesburg, MS.

Gertha married Robert Dunn in 1950 until his untimely death.  Later, she married Lawrence Moore Jr. in 1964 enjoying 37 years until his death in 2001.  They operated a group home for mental patients for over 16 years and Ida’s Sunshine Nursery School for over 18 years.  They were foster parents to many children, which led to them adopting two boys, Lamont and Timothy Moore.

Gertha had an eye for fashion and she enjoyed dressing in suits with matching hats.  She also enjoyed her pet dogs, gardening and entertaining friends and relatives. Gert was a great cook and meticulous homemaker who loved to decorate her home with fine furnishings.

Gertha went home to be with the Lord after a long illness on March 25, 2024. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence and son, Shelton.  Her parents and siblings: Bishop Daisy Sims, Evelyn Lindsey, Lorena Long, Mattie Harris, Ida Boone, and Delia Copeland; brothers, Matthew (MH), Willie, Robert, and Thurmond (Bo) Hull also preceded her.

To cherish her memories, Gertha leaves to mourn 2 sisters, Teresa Youngblood and Lois Jackson; daughters, Patti Dunn and Linda Elder(William); sons Larry, Lamont and Timothy; grandchildren, Robert Dunn, Dachelle Bufford, Theresa Moore, Patrice Elder, Tiffany Benison(Dewayne), Quenton Moore, Miesha Moore, Timothy Jr., and Noah Powell; 9 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, a special niece, Mary Kelly; hosts of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Gert, you will be missed.  We are thankful for the years we spent with each other. We will see each other again because we know you are in Heaven with our sweet Jesus, who gave His Life for us when he died on the cross for our sins and rose again so we can have ETERNAL LIFE.  Enjoy every second in the arms of the Lord.
