Frances Denise Smith, our beloved widow, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend departed this earthy realm, and was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 5, 2023, while battling with dementia. Frances was the third of nine children born on June 4, 1953 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Frank Battle Sr. and Jessie L. Harper.
As a young girl, Frances joined the choir ministry at Peace Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. She enjoyed singing her favorite gospel song “Sending up My Timber” with family.
While attending East Technical High School, Frances met and married Moses Hinton. They raised three children James, Terrance, and Thomas together. Frances was a homemaker who devoted her life to her children, and husband.
In 2003, Frances remarried to Leonard Smith; they celebrated ten glorious years of marriage before the Lord called him home.
Frances was a shining light of humor and a kindhearted person that would light the room when she entered. Frances lived a blessed life while being a blessing to others. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends. She also loved playing card games, bingo, watching karate movies, playing pocket billiards, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and listening to music.
God and His word that provides her family and friends with comfort, knowing that she is at peace with the Lord and reunited with her father Frank Battle Sr., mother Jessie L. Harper, husband Leonard Smith, brother Frank Battle Jr., and granddaughter Natalia Hinton who preceded in her death.
Frances is survived by her children James Hinton, Terrance Hinton, and Thomas Hinton; her grandchildren Jazzmine Hinton, Jamil Hinton, Jayla Hinton, Selena Mark, Kalena Mark, Taniyah Hinton, Tamiyah Dean-Perry, and Layla Claxton; her great grandchildren Jashiya Slaughter, Karter Hinton, Michael Clements, Messiah Clements, and Kaden Hinton; siblings Carolyn Spicer (Kenneth), Deborah Crump, Patricia Battle, Mary Battle-Gordon, Constance Battle, Rosetta Battle, and Michael S. Battle. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
