Etta Marie (Grist) Holmes

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Etta Marie Holmes (nee Grist) on March 29, 2024, at the age of 95.  Etta graduated from Cleveland College/Western Reserve University (now known as Case Western Reserve University) where she met the love of her life, Clarence Holsey Holmes. She continued her education at Columbia University in New York City where she earned her master’s degree in education. Etta and Clarence wed on July 25,1953, a union that has lasted almost 71 years. To this union, three children were born, Karen Holmes Ward, Clarence H. Holmes Jr., and Leslie Anne Bell, one grand - daughter, Lauren Marie Bell. She will be deeply missed but her love and memories will live on forever. . In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cleveland Branch of the NAACP.
