Eloise Dickerson Obituary

Eloise (Ella) Dickerson, age 104, was born October 14th, 1916 as Ella Askew in Alabama and passed away in Lyndhurst, Ohio on January 5th, 2021. She spent her life in Tuskegee, Alabama; Detroit, Michigan; and Cleveland, Ohio. She loved the LORD and hoped that her daughter Dorothy and her many grand-children and great-grandchildren would share in that love.

As a child she spent most of her life in Tuskegee, Alabama and a few years in Cleveland, Ohio. In the 1930’s Eloise married Willie Perry and bore both of her daughters. She went back north sometime after 1940 and settled in Detroit, Michigan. After she married Calvin Dickerson in 1962 she moved back to Cleveland, Ohio where Eloise became a member of the True Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Founder and Cousin, Pastor Will T. Austin. She faithfully served as a Deaconess and started the Young Children’s Usher Board, The Pastor’s Aid, The Mother’s Board, and The Missionary’s Society.

When Pastor Austin’s health began to fail, Mother Dickerson, as she was known to her church family, continued serving under the leadership of Pastor Booker Franklin until God called him home in 2010. As the leadership of the church changed over to current Pastor Roosevelt Perry Jr., she continued in her dedication and service.

Eloise was small in stature but extremely spunky and never minced her words. In a godly way she would keep you "STRAIGHT and IN-ORDER", whether you liked it or not! She was the oldest member of the True Missionary Baptist Church and the Matriarch of our family until God called her home. She was loved and held dear by her entire family and her church family and will be missed by all.

Eloise is preceded in death by her parents Dow and Hattie Askew, brothers Otis, Dowell Jr., and Albert; sisters Margaret and Mary; husband Calvin Dickerson; and daughters Willie Mae Perry and Dorothy Mae (Perry) Tisdale. She is survived by her Grandchildren: William Perry, Don Tisdale Sr., Deborah Borden, Margie Dorsey, Darlene Scott, Richelle Johnson, Lionel Tisdale, Carmella Rice, Venis Tisdale, Venita Woodall, and Cassandra Jones; 26 Great-Grandchildren, a host of Great-great Grandchildren, and Great-great-great grandchildren.
