Eloise Cortner was born on February 5, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the daughter of Helen and Roosevelt Fitzhugh. Eloise always acknowledged her Grandmother for her constant support and love while growing up.
Eloise graduated from John Hay High School. She was employed at the State of Ohio, Unemployment Office until she retired after over 30 years of service. During her employment she met the love of her life, Ferrell Cortner. Eloise and Ferrell were married October 2, 1954. To this union was born their only child, Ronald Stanley. Eloise and Ferrell were married 56 years when he went to be with the Lord in 2010.
Eloise was a woman of God. She dedicated herself to the Lord at a young age. She was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Church in Oakwood Village. She believed in opening her home to friends and family whenever they were in town.
Eloise loved people and seldom missed occasions to send handwritten notes or cards of celebration. She also enjoyed vacations in Florida and traveling by train to warmer locations during the winter season.
Eloise talked about living a long life ….and she did. At the blessed age of 93 she went home to be with the Lord.
Eloise leaves to mourn her son, Ronald Stanley Cortner, daughter-in-law, Minister Ava Cortner; two grandchildren, Dr. Laquetta Cortner and Ronald Stanley Cortner, Jr. (Tajea Cortner); two great grandchildren, London K. Cortner and Karis L. Cortner; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
