Eloise G. Bean
Born Eloise Naomi George on August 17, 1929, she served the Lord faithfully for 91 years and left us to be amongst the stars on November 8, 2020.
Proceeded in death by her parents William & Olive George; sisters Bertha Jackson, Mildred Cummings, Thelma Williams, Olive Cochran, & Edith Harris; husbands Richard Bean and Thomas Hill.
Eloise graduated from Columbus’ East High School where she was a member of the Spirituals Choir, Musical Arts Program and the Operetta Club. She studied finance at West Virginia State University and became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Eloise married Thomas Hill in August of 1952 and from the union she had three children: Thomas B. Hill, Debra R. King (Greg), and Alisa A. Hill. In October 1983 she married Richard C. Bean and they enjoyed a blissful marriage that lasted until his untimely death on January 26th 1993.
Eloise was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church for more than 37 years. She was Chairperson of Antioch Baptist Church’s Finance Committee, a member of Antioch’s Sunshine Committee, Veteran’s Bible Sunday School, and the McKinney Missionary Circle.
After working multiple secretarial positions within Veterans Affairs, US Army, US Navy, and the US Defense Dept., Eloise became one of the first Equal Opportunity/Contract Compliance
Specialists with the US Dept. of Labor, where she worked tirelessly to increase employment opportunities for Women, Minorities, Disabled Veterans & the Handicapped until retirement.
During the 1960’s and ‘70’s, Eloise found time to raise her family, work a full time job, volunteer countless hours campaigning for many political candidates, and selling girl scout cookies. In later years, she was President of the Glenville Health Association, Board Member of the Phyllis Wheatley Association, Trustee member of the Forest City Hospital Foundation, and a member of Eliza Bryant Village Auxillary’s I and II.
Eloise leaves behind 3 children, 4 stepchildren: Rodney Bean, Courtney (Herbert) Jones, Marva White, and Kimberly Beckwith; 8 grandchildren: Nicole (Chris) Taylor, Rachael (Brian) Murckson, Rena (Ani) Isen, and Larry Tanner (Kelly), Harper Jones, Harlan Jones, Leonard White, and Richard White; 6 great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces & nephews to mourn her passing.
