Elnora Jessie was born August 29, 1935 to Charlie and Lucy McGowan (deceased) in Laurel, Mississippi. She was the sixth born of eleven siblings: Charlie Henry, Ola Mae, John and Roy who have all preceded her in death.
Elnora moved from Laurel, Mississippi at an early age an stayed with her sister Ola and her brother Roy and his wife Hazel until she met the love of her life Charles Jessie and they were married. One child Dephny Lane Lavender preceded her in death.
Elnora held three jobs in her lifetime which were working as a seamstress at Richmond Brothers for years which was a passion that she had. She loved to sew. She taught all of her children how to sew and they carried on her legacy. She left there and started a career working for General Motors. First with Fisher Body and then they transferred all employees to Lordstown Plant where she retired after many years of service.
Elnora loved to go on cruises, have family gatherings, go to casinos and on bus trips, as well as cabaret parties. She enjoyed making people laugh.
Elnora joined Beulah Baptist Church at an early age when her mother asked her one day to come go with her to church and from that point until she could no longer attend her church home.
She departed this life on January 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. to be with the Lord in the comforts of her home with family.
She leaves with precious memories her husband Charles; two children, Gregory and Yolanda Denise (Joseph); four grandchildren: Michelle, Bryon, Tiana, and Cassandra; five great-grandchildren: Nija, Riana, Brooklyn, Delonte Jr. and Arielle; She also leaves to mourn three sisters, Lucille, Areathar and Emma; three brothers, Lucious, Robert and Jimmie as well as a very best friend Ruth Beedles; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
