Ella Lawrence, affectionately know as "Auntie" was born April 20, 1922 in Madison County, Alabama to the late James and Nancy Eldridge. She confessed Christ at an early age, when she joined Lowe's Chapel Methodist Church, where she was a faithful member until she moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1953. Ella met and married John Lawrence, August 8, 1964 in Cleveland, Ohio.
She continued her Christian discipleship when she moved to Cleveland, Ohio, when she joined St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church, under the pastorate of the late Rev. Albert L. Fuller, where she was an active and dedicated member for 68 years, and a member of the Cathedral and Sanctuary Choir, and a Deaconess. Ella believed in the importance of studying God's Word and assisting the church ministry as a servant of the Lord.
In her early life, Ella attended Oakwood College, where she studied teaching, but later changed her major to Nursing, and worked at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation until her retirement. She loved to cook, and she loved to eat. Ella was simply a "sweet" lady, who loved her family and friends beyond measure, and she will be sorely missed.
Ella went home to be with the Lord on March 23, 2021 after a short illness, and is preceded in death by her husband and four sisters. Ella leaves behind to cherish her memory, five nephews; James (Joyce) Pearson, Larry (Caroline) Pearson, James (Cynthia) Farmer, Terry (Elaine) Patton and Dr. James (Peggy) Brown; three nieces, Margaret Dawkins, Eleanor (Frederick) Barnes and Nancy Farmer; a special granddaughter, Anne (Michael) Cole, and a host of great nieces and nephews along with relatives and friends.
