In Loving Memory of Mrs. Doris B. Matthews
Doris Bernice Bailey was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 8, 1928. She was the third child born to the union of the late Mr. Connie (Ernest) Bailey and Gladys Sanders-Bailey.
Doris Bailey married Mr. George Matthews Jr. (now deceased) in 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio. To this union three children were born. Two sons, Freeman, George and daughter, Connie.
Doris became one of Jehovah's Witnesses on September,1958.
She had a daily routine that included personal Bible reading and studying, this routine also included studying with her children. She looked forward each year to taking her children to special assemblies and summer convention that were held in different cities around the United States.
She diligently participated in the Bible preaching and teaching work that Jehovah's Witnesses are well known for. She enjoyed her role in helping others to learn what the Bible really teaches, that God's Kingdom is the only solution for mankind's problems and the hope for a bright future.
She taught her children to show serious and high regard for the Christian meetings by their respectful dress and conduct. She was known to show neighborly love and concern for the elderly and shut-ins, by checking on them by phone, personally visiting and assisting them with their household chores.
Through the years she enjoyed her employment at several hospitals in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
Doris loved to travel and visited her family in such countries as Germany, Sweden, Amsterdam and Tanzania.
On March 1, 2021 she passed away.
Her memory will be cherished by her three children Freeman Matthews of Columbus, Ohio, George Matthews Ill (Lisa) and Connie Matthews. One brother Michael Bailey, two sisters Sanza Clark and Toni Williams. Brothers Cornelius (Connie), Ernest (Benny) and Norris Bailey preceded her in death. Brothers-in-laws, Mr. Allen Matthews of Cleveland, Ohio and Arthur Matthews of Hartford, Conn. Sisters-in-law, Mrs. Alice Avery and Mrs. Jackie Matthews both of Montgomery, Alabama. Six grandchildren, Candice Arp (Adrian) of Charlotte, NC, George Reuben Matthews of Cleveland, Melissa Reddrick (Stefan) of Fullerton, CA, Jessica Matthews of Garfield Heights, Ohio and Samuel Matthews (Brittany) of Garfield Heights, Ohio and Ernest Matthews (Roshanda) of Columbus, Ohio.
16 great-grandchildren (extended family included), nieces, nephews and cousins. A host of spiritual brothers and sisters around the world .
