The Lord called an angel home! Doris Jenkins was born March 9, 1926 in Newnan GA to late Thomas Levell and Mamie (Thompson) Levell. She was the 8th out of 11 children.
Doris graduated from Jacksonville Colored High School in Jacksonville, Ala. and attended Alabama State University in Montgomery, Ala.
Doris worked at Gadsden High School in Gadsden, Ala then moved to Cleveland, Ohio where she married Ulysses Jenkins (deceased) to this union 2 children were born. Over the years she worked and retired from The Union Club in Cleveland Ohio where she enjoyed working.
Throughout her 97 years, she was known by many as their mother, sister, grandmother and even great grandmother. Her kind heart and sassie sense of humor left an impression wherever she went. Doris was a Christian, and her faith served as a compass for her life.
Doris loved the Lord, and her church (Olivet Institutional Baptist Church) where
she served for 52 years under Rev Hoover, Rev Dr Otis Moss and present
Rev Dr Jawanza Colvin. She served as a missionary, bible study (list the other ministries). She was a faithful and dedicated church member and servant of the Lord. She put her heart and soul into any activity in which she participated even in her 90's. Her greatest hope is that she made a positive difference and impact in someone's life.
Doris was preceded in death by her loving husband Ulysses Jenkins, seven brothers: Edward, Elijah, Ezekiel, James, David, Emanuel and Walter and two sisters: Emel Canty and Oper Lee Harris.
Left to celebrate a life so graciously and lovingly lived is her sister, Seclonia (Jeannie) Morris of Alabama, her children: Stanley (Shirley) Jenkins of South Carolina, Yolanda (Albert) Bolden of Arizona, Shirley Barnes of Ohio and two special grandchildren: Eric (Sylvia) Cunningham and Tracee (Thurman) Powell all together 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews other family members and friends.
