Darnay Cheeks

Darnay L. Cheeks was born August 24, 1960, in Cleveland, Ohio.  He was the first-born fraternal twin to the late Frank and Eleanor Cheeks. His brother Darnell L. Cheeks also preceded him in death.

Darnay accepted Christ at an early age and was raised Catholic, becoming an altar boy, and taking his first communion around the age of 12. In May 2014, he joined New Life At Calvary Presbyterian Church. He attended Warrensville High School in Cleveland, Ohio where he obtained his diploma. After graduation, Darnay attended Tennessee State University on a football scholarship. 

Darnay, (also affectionally known as “Clyde”), began his career working as a social worker and drug counselor for troubled youth. After which, he went on to work for Ford Motor and retired early. In his later years he enjoyed working for the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections as a Poll Worker, and rehabbing properties. His hobbies consisted of traveling, attending concerts, playing poker, listening to various genres of music, and looking stylish.

Darnay was the proud father to Christian Darnell Cheeks, and Jayla Cheeks, and in August of 2010 he married the love of his life, Cassandra Riley.

His greatest joy was being a father and husband, and spending time with all his family and friends. His mission and passion in life was to connect with those he loved and make beautiful memories. Darnay always had an interesting story to tell, an encouraging word to share, or a lending hand for anyone in need. He was a stranger to no one and was loved by so many.

Our dearly beloved Darnay departed this life on Monday, April 24, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Cassandra Riley-Cheeks; two children, Christian and Jayla Cheeks; six aunts, Dy Gloria Pratt, Regina Daniel (Carlton), Helen Britt, Paulette Howard, Pearlie Denson, and Evelyn Newsome; two uncles, Wardell Cheeks (Vera), and George Cheeks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
