The Heartbeat of the family Darlene D. Vernon was born July 13, 1956 to Sue Gee Vernon who preceded her in death. Darlene transitioned to be with the Lord on January 13, 2024. Darlene was born in Cleveland, Ohio and grew up on Cedar Ave. She attended Observation Elementary School, Audubon Jr. High, and John Hay High School. She gave her life to Christ at an early age at St. Timothy Baptist Church, she later became a faithful member of Calvary Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Darlene was the Matriarch of the family. She was fun and funny, a straight A student throughout school, she loved to read, play softball, watch game shows, play cards, eat candy, and loved to eat, most importantly she loved to laugh and talk with her grandkids, nieces and nephews. She kept everyone on track. A mother to many and a great friend and loving and caring person. A true Matriarch, she wore her role with unparalleled grace, exuding joy, leadership, and unwavering commitment to family, earning her the title matriarch.
Darlene was a strong woman, a lung cancer survivor, she fought a tenacious fight at the end of her battle she was very feisty and gave most a piece of her mind. Darlene was a hardworking woman, where she worked at Wear Craft, Royals Shoe store for over 20 years, Fairfax Place and Evergreen.
Darlene was preceded in death by her daughter Velma Vernon, two brothers Alphonso and John Vernon, Grandmothers Velma Sims, Margaret Smith Vernon, Grandfather John Vernon. She is also joined by her aunt Mytris Mahone, two uncles Edward (Eddie) Sr. and Sylvester Vernon, cousin Napoleon Bone. Darlene leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Brandy and Lynn Vernon, stepson Roderick Loper (Chanda), Brother Edward Vernon, four sisters Susan and Carla Vernon (Carlos Ashby), Elizabeth Kilgore and Toni Ray Loper. Four grandchildren Treasure Vernon, Kevyana Martin, Treshana (Felicia) Vernon and Jayvier Harris, two great grandchildren Jayvion and Jessiiha, nine nieces and nineteen great nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends. Five bonus children Angel, Chaz, Carlisa, Dezire and Chance. Two Best friends for over 50 years Lillian Conway and Jackie Culpepper.
Beyond her earthly journey, Darlene’s laughter and zest for life echoed through the hearts of those she touched. She understood that life’s true wealth lies in the shared moments with loved ones. Let us celebrate a life lived fully, honoring the memory of a remarkable woman who wore a smile through every season and loved unconditionally.
