This morning we gather to mourn and celebrate the life of our beloved, Charles A. Hite Jr. As
the leader of seven, Charles is the eldest child of Jeannetta and Charles Hite. Born Sept. 27,
1943, in Louisville, Kentucky, eventually moving to his home base of Cleveland, Ohio at the age
of 3. All that knew him were aware of his stern, yet equally relaxed demeanor, a constant
mindset of family first, and his incredible persuasiveness in selling his pictures.
He attended Kinsman Elementary and graduated from East Tech, as the class of 62’. By his
side was his childhood love, Carolyn Hite, who he married in 1964, and had four beautiful
children with. After graduation, he would follow in a similar path as his father by working for the
US Alloy Engineering company, before transitioning to the Cleveland Pneumatic Co. in 1978,
where he worked on producing airplane landing gears. He continued working there for 28 years,
before his retirement in 2006. Before and well into his retirement, Charles truly enjoyed creating
his unique pieces as a wooden pictorial artisan, a skill he is widely known for. The very long and
tedious process of putting pictures on wood was something that brought him great joy and
served as a consistent hobby in his retired days.
Charles Hite was a simple man, not needing much to be pleased. He loved sports, never
missing a basketball, baseball, or football game. He was an amazing swimmer who taught many
including his grandchildren, despite their constant resistance. He was also a frequent solitaire
and checkers person, who tried to understand the complexities of chess, but overall his favorite,
most relaxing, and equally stressful activity was spending time with his family. Whether he was
watching the game or listening to Miles Davis with his sons, riding to patrol the community with
his daughters, watching Law & Order or his western shows with his grandchildren or just sitting
in the kitchen with his wife, it was quite apparent that he loved, provided for, and protected his
family.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Jeannetta and Charles Hite, and his wife's parents,
Emma and John Sizemore, two brothers Eric and Gerald, and his son-in-law, Mohammed
Ismail. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn. Siblings Sheila, Sharon, Tyrone(Linda),
and Janeen. Children, Mark(Hazel), Charles Ⅲ, Lolita, and Monica. Grandchildren, Ron’Deor,
Cedrick, Dashon, Nicole, Yasir, and Karlie. Great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Kaior, Kacie, and
Naomi, a multitude of other family members, cherished special friends Monk, Marilyn, Charlie C.
Don, Larry, Cliff, Boss, Phonzo, honorary grand-daughter Denise and his family security dog,
Sur.
Charles has spent many years working and supporting his family, and now God has called him
to heaven, so that may finally rest in a peaceful paradise. The memories and feelings we share
for Charles will continue to live in our minds, our hearts and our souls, but rest assured, one day
we will meet again. Until then, let us celebrate the good times and honor the life of Charles Hite
