Bobbie Miller Obituary

The Wake and Homegoing Celebration will be livestreamed beginning at 9:30 AM.  Please see the link below.

Bobbie Jean Miller was the only child born to Viola Hunter and Benjamin Grubbs on September 5, 1935 in Ozark, Alabama.

She began her early education in Alabama, but moved to Cleveland, Ohio with her mother as a young child. She completed her early education in the Cleveland Public School System and graduated from Glenville High School in 1954. Bobbie went to Ohio State University to study nursing but changed her career path and began working at National City Bank.

Bobbie completed her undergraduate degree later in life with a degree in sociology and completed her master’s degree in Sociology. She returned to the work force and worked for the United States Post Office. She started the Day Care program at Judson Park Retirement Community and worked as a case worker for Visiting Angels.

Bobbie loved music, loved to sing, and had a beautiful voice. She was also an avid reader. She loved to try new things, such as sign language. She did “ride along” with the police department, she loved reading to young children, and was a volunteer working with disabled children in the Cleveland Public School System. She also completed a 26.5 miles marathon at the age of 70!

Bobbie’s faith was also very important to her. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.  She joined Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in 1958 under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Odie M. Hoover, and continued her service under Rev. Dr. Otis Moss, Jr., and Rev. Dr. Jawanza Karriem Colvin. She was a faithful member of the Sunday School’s Ministry until her health prevented her from attending. (1958-2022)

In 1957, she met the love of her life, Dr. M. T. Miller, and they were married on June 17, 1961. They just celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary.

Bobbie and M. T. raised their three daughters: Teresa Maxine, Vickie Celeste and Gail Eileen in Shaker Heights, Ohio. Her family was very important to her. She was involved in her children’s activities and was very close to her mother, and her cousins.

Bobbie was very generous with her time and gave of herself and would do anything for anyone in need. She was also involved in various social and philanthropic organization including Jack and Jill of America, The Dental Wives, and The Clevelanders.

Bobbie is preceded in death by her parents, Viola Hunter and Benjamin Grubbs.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Dr. M. T. Miller: three daughters: Dr. Teresa N. Miller (Rondal Rollin), Vickie C. Miller-Batson (Mark), and Gail E. McShepard (Randell); nine grandchildren: Anthony Hill-McShepard, Cameron Rollins, Zachary Miller-Batson, Kendall Rollins, Dominic Miller-Batson, Madison McShepard, Sierra Rollins, Avery McShepard, and Julian Miller-Batson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will be truly missed.
