Betty Jean Cofield

Born June 10, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Lady-Bee Beasly and Morris Powers; Betty was raised by Rev. W.C & Frances Thurston - to whom she called “Mom”.  She was the oldest of 4 siblings: Roy (deceased), Ronald (deceased), Redell, & Morries-Dump (deceased).

Betty attended John Hay High School in Cleveland, Ohio. At John Hay, she would meet Alvin Burgan; who she married. This marriage would produce four beautiful children, Alvin Jr., Sherry, Carlotta, and Yolanda.

She regularly visited Antioch Baptist Church in Cleveland, OH; After spending some time in Boston, Massachusetts she was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church. Betty would eventually return home to Cleveland, OH, and marry C. Tyrone Cofield. They had one child, Keith Dwayne Cofield, who passed away at the age of three.

In the late ‘60s, Betty started working at the Y.W.C.A. - where she would answer phone calls, make fliers, and do a lot of administrative work. After working at the Y.W.C.A for 10 years, she then went on to work as a dietician at the Cleveland Clinic. She would work at the Cleveland Clinic for 18 years before retiring.

Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory her brother Redell, her children Alvin Jr., Sherry, Carlotta, and Yolanda, Seven (7) grandchildren, Nine (9) great-grandchildren, One (1) great-great-grandchild, and a host of friends and extended family who love her dearly.
