Obituary for Beatrice K. Curtis
Beatrice joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Leroy Kelly. In 1981, she was a Charter Member of Sanctuary Baptist Church. Beatrice was a member of the Mother’s Board and the Morning Sip.
After arriving in Cleveland, Beatrice first worked as a domestic. She then took a job at Huron Road Hospital and from there went to work as a cafeteria cook at Byron Jr. High School in Shaker Heights until her retirement in 1984. Beatrice loved to sew and was an excellent cook. Her macaroni and cheese was exceptional!
Just last year, Beatrice celebrated her 100th birthday. She received a proclamation from President Joe Biden and was recognized by Fox 8 News. When asked what her secret was to reaching 100 years, her reply was enjoying her Werther’s Original Candy Balls. Yes, indeed!
Beatrice departed this life peacefully with her son by her side on September 21, 2022, three days before her 101st birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings: sisters, Alice Allen, Ollie Landers, Ophelia Vickers, Rebecca Kidd; and brothers, Leroy, J. D., Johnny, and Willie Kidd.
Celebrating her memory are her son, Kenneth; niece, Gladys Marie Edwards and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and great-great great nieces and nephews.
