Ms. Barbara Jean Harris, 83, of Cleveland, Ohio, entered eternal rest at Wickliffe Country Place on Monday, May 29, 2023.
Barbara was born on January 23, 1940, to Florida Jones and Sherman McMichael Sr. in Cleveland, Ohio. She attended John Adams High School near Harvard Avenue. She was a multifaceted student and athlete, having been a member of the track and cheerleading teams, as well as homecoming queen in her final year of high school. Barbara was known to be incredibly strong and hardworking - values she passed on to her loved ones. In her professional career, she held roles in factories, security, and most notably, as a private duty nurse providing home healthcare.
Barbara was married to Harvey Henry Harris (deceased) for over a decade and they had four daughters: Rhonda, Marnetta, Yolanda, and Monica. Although the family moved several times throughout the years, a second home for Barbara and her girls was Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. God was always first in Barbara’s life. She was deeply involved in her church community and shared her gifts of cooking and her love of singing in the church choir. Barbara had a celebratory and sociable spirit and could recognize a good party from a mile away, always looking to get her dance on. She was also a fierce protector and safe presence, raising her daughters to be equipped and prepared for the difficulties that the world can bring.
Barbara is survived by her brother Sherman McMichael Jr. and his wife Judy, of Washington, as well as her daughters Rhonda Gombita, Yolanda Harris, and Monica Harris. Barbara is also survived by nine grandchildren ; Taneel, Brandon, Cassandra, Paulina, Teshaira, Michelle, Monique, Elise, and Terrance Prevo and two dear nieces; India and Shawnee- and was blessed to also meet several of her great-grandchildren, including Catherine and Terrance Jr. Prevo. Barbara’s family also wishes to recognize Gerald and Jane Harris, who were constant supports and friends throughout her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, and her daughter Marnetta Baskerville.
