Barbara Jean Erwin, 79, departed this life on January 28th, 2020 in her home.
Barbara Jean Erwin, the second child of Rives and Irene Clopton (nee Franklin) was born in Youngstown, Ohio on September 29th, 1940. She earned the B.A. in Education from Youngstown State College in 1962 prior to moving to Cleveland, Ohio. She was married to Jesse W. Erwin, and to that union was born Jesse W. Erwin, Jr.
Barbara taught in the Cleveland Public School District until her retirement from Adlai E Stevenson School. She belonged to the Lambda Phi Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, the Friends Club (formerly the Squaws of Cleveland), and the Women’s Guild at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where she was a devout member. Barbara loved family and was loved by all. A voracious reader, she also enjoyed traveling, and visiting with family.
Barbara J. Erwin was preceded in death by her parents Rives and Irene (nee Franklin) Clopton and her husband Jesse W. Erwin, Sr. She is survived by her son Jesse W. Erwin, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, her brother, Fred Clopton of Mentor, OH, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family is grateful to all the caregivers, especially Faye McGrady, who helped ensure that Barbara was well-cared for during the final months.
