Adam Cockrell Obituary

Adam Clayton Cockrell, youngest son of the late Emanuel M. Cockrell, Sr. and Thelma Ree Martin Cockrell was born on March 11, 1956 in Mobile, Alabama. After moving to Cleveland, Ohio in 1967 he grew up attending the Public Schools of Cuyahoga County. Adam graduated from John Hay High School. He also attended Georgia Military College for a short period.

He was raised in a loving and God-fearing family. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and was a member of Second Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.

He worked at United Steel for 40+ years and he retired on April 1, 2018.

Earlier in life he was united in Holy Matrimony to Kim Crayton. This union was blessed with one daughter, Megan Cockrell and one son, Adam Clayton Cockrell, Jr., who preceded him in death.

Adam enjoyed music and sports. He had a generous spirit and a pleasant personality. Always "Mr. Funny". His love of laughter will not end with his death. He always had many life lessons to teach to others. He was a strong advocate for the younger generations to go to college. He always spoke about his family to his friends and his friends to his family. He loved them all. His influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew him.
In the twinkling of an eye, our beloved brother, father, uncle and friend was called to his eternal home on September 8, 2018.

He is survived by his daughter, Megan A. Cockrell, two (2) grandchildren; his sisters Deborah A. Hicks (Rosenau Hicks who preceded him in death) and Mignon C. Footman; his three (3) brothers Emanuel M. Cockrell, Jr (Shirley), Jerry Cockrell (Lula); George Cockrell (Mary); seventeen (17) nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; aunts and many, many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Emanuel M. Cockrell, Sr. and Thelma Ree Martin Cockrell; his brother-in-law Rosenau Hicks, his grandmother Carrie B. Walton Philyaw; aunts, uncles and cousins.
