Nathan Mumford Obituary

Home Going Celebration In Memory of Brother Nathan Aaron Mumford
December 18, 1979 - July 7, 2017
Nathan Aaron Mumford - lovingly known as Nate, Nath, Uncle Nate - was born December 18, 1979 in Cleveland, Ohio, the third of three children born to Forney L. and the late Karen E. Mumford (née Hamilton).

Nath was a graduate of Cleveland Heights High School, class of 1997. He earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing in 2003 from Morehouse College. During his college years Nate, worked with Doubletree Hotel in Atlanta, GA. This was his first taste of Corporate Sales and he proved to be a master promoter. Upon graduation, he climbed the corporate ladders at Kinkos/FedEx Corp and the Washington Wizards where he received awards for top sales in tickets and suites in Washington D.C. before establishing the Karen E. Mumford (KEM) Cancer Foundation to memorialize his beloved mother and provide programs and services for cancer survivors and their caregivers - visiting the www.kemfoundation.org is a must to see the many programs he was instrumental in forming.

He was the recipient of many awards and honors for his efforts. Through Foundation work, Nate met the beautiful Camille and eventually they married May 18, 2013 at a memorable destination wedding in Fremont, Ohio. Camille was the love of Nate's life and he often journaled he was thankful for her love, strength and acceptance of his health battles. Nath was a popular speaker for University Hospital, the Cleveland Cord Blood Center and Save the Cord Foundation based in Arizona. He was described as "bringing light and joy" into any room he enters!

Nate's special joy was his time with family and friends - he was Uncle Nate to a host of younger cousins and godchildren as well as a devoted member here at Olivet Institutional Baptist Church under the pastorate of Emeritus Reverend Dr. Otis Moss, Jr and Reverend Dr. Jawanza K. Colvin, working with the Youth Ministry and Parking Lot Ministry. At Bridge Church in Brooklyn, NY, he and Camille served as small group leaders for weekly Bible studies. Nate was appreciative of even the smallest efforts on his behalf - a takeout meal from Grandmother Karole Swoope; his Dad's cabbage and kale - he always expressed outward thanks and a "Nate" smile was a joy to behold! Again, he often journaled that he cherished and was thankful for time with his family and friends especially while watching Cleveland sports broadcasts - he was an avid fan.

Nate leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Camille Janei; father, Forney L. Mumford; sister Kimberly McCallum (Duane); aunts - Sharon House (Bill), Cathryn Mumford; great uncle - James Jones; uncle - Eric Mumford (Lynn Toler); cousins - Rakim Jihaad (Kiz & son, Porter; daughter, Balance), Patrice aka "Shelley" Moore (Dereyck & daughter, Kennedy), Kareem aka "Scotty" Mumford, Jessica Robinson (sons: Jordan, Jarrod & Julian), Ihsaan aka "Todd" York (Kim & seven children); Michael Mumford (daughter, Orion); Eleanor Thomas (sons: Ethan, Nicholas & Jacinth). In-laws: Karole, grandmother; Carolyn, mother; Christa, auntie; Floyd, Ceyan & Curran, uncles; Chandler (children: Carly, Connor & Camden), Charlie Rae - sisters & Christian, brother. Special cousins - Irene Tucker, Sandra Blanchard, Karen Bolden (Al aka "Sugar" & daughter Kandra); James Jones, Jennifer Prayer (Jamie), Terry Jones.
