Naomi Kennedy was born in Westfield, Alabama January 17, 1932 to James and Louise (Jackson) Smith. She was the third of nine children: Glossie (d.), James (d.), Jettie (d.), Anderson, Dorothy (d.), Roosevelt (d.), Josephine, and Clyde.
Naomi moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1955, then moved to Clayton, Ohio in 2007 where she remained until 2017. She passed February 16, 2018 in Aurora, Ohio.
Naomi worked for Bell Drapery and the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier from 1964 until retirement. She graduated high school in Roosevelt, Alabama and attended Tri-C (Cuyahoga Community College) in Cleveland, Ohio.
Naomi married Lawerance C. Kennedy July 28, 1948. She was a loyal wife until his death February 29, 1991.
Naomi was a faithful member of Greater Abyssinia Baptist Church for more than 50 years until she relocated and attended Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church in Trotwood, Ohio. In 2016, she was a League of Negro Women in their Eighties honoree. She was a member of the Deaconess, Missionary Circle, devoted youth and adult Sunday school teacher, and a tireless bereavement committee member. Naomi was called on to speak at countless church events. She took in any young person who needed nurturing.
Naomi was a master seamstress, tailor, and an avid reader. She enjoyed basketball, wrestling, boxing, and auto racing. She was well known as a master cook.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and friend, Lawerance C. and her beloved daughter, Brenda Joyce.
Naomi was a loving mother and leaves to mourn her children: Connie Louise, Mary Ann (Brad) and Myra Lynn (Jimmy); seven grandchildren: Precious (Sherman), Devon (Byron), Bradley (Laurie), Darrell, Brenda (Chris), Alexander, Tyler; ten great-grandchildren: McKenzi, Daryiah, Olivia, Gloria, Donovan, Darian, Maxwell, Nolan, Harper, and Darrell Jr.; and a host of nieces and nephews, family members, extended children and special relationships.
