Horace M Browner was born in Cleveland, Ohio on November 27, 1924 to Elder Horace Browner and Betty Browner. He was the third child born in the middle between his two older sisters Alzonia, Naomi and his two younger siblings Lorrice and his youngest and only brother Bobby. Horace grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and was educated in the Cleveland Public School System.
He attended John Adams High School and reached his Sophomore year (Tenth Grade) and was drafted by the United States Army in January 1943 to serve his country in World War II. During the war he fought in two campaigns, Rhine Campaign and Central Europe. (Battle of the Bulge). He was the last living relative of his family as all of his sisters and his brother preceded him in death.
Upon his return from the war he entered into the workforce as a tradesmen working as an auto mechanic and Arc Welder. He held various positions until he found his calling as a Union Leader with the United Auto Workers (UAW). He worked his way through the ranks on the UAW for many years and was promoted to the prestigious Staff Position as an International Representative. He was the first Person of Color to hold such a Position without a formal education which made this truly an honor. Browner would go on to prove himself winning major contract negotiations for the people he served for several years. In fact, following his formal retirement he was asked to return as an consultant to assist other staff members with their negotiating skills.
He took up the sport of golf in his retirement years and enjoyed playing with other retirees and close friends. But his best pass time enjoyment was music as he was a Jazz enthusiast and loved to listen to jazz greats such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Quincy Jones, Lionel Hampton, and big band orchestras, Glen Miller and Count Basie. He also loved making jazz "CDs" for his close friends and family. Browner and his wife, Pat of thirty eight years, enjoyed entertaining their family and friends.
