Julia Lee (Finney) Steward was born on October 2, 1934 to the late Mattie Lee Finney and Jack Finney in Brooks County, Georgia. Mattie Lee often referred to Julia as her “only begotten daughter.”
Julia grew up in Macon, GA, graduating from Morven-Rosenwald High School in 1951. Soon after, she completed college courses at Savannah State College and relocated to Bronx, New York then later to Cleveland, Ohio.
In the 1950’s, Julia worked at an independent jewelry repair store in downtown Cleveland. She was later employed by the General Electric Company where she retired after 25 years.
