Fannie B. Parker, born March 8, 1925 in the town of Flat Creek, Alabama was one of fifteen children born to Julian and Lillian Parker. She was predeceased by both parents and all but one sibling.
On June 26, 1944 Fannie married Joseph DeJarnette, Sr. and they moved from Birmingham, Alabama to Cleveland to make a better life for the family. She loved to travel with her husband to exotic places in the world as well as numerous cities across the United States. Fannie and Joseph, Sr. shared 66 years (“and 5 months,”) Fannie would add) of marriage until her husband was called from labor to reward in November of 2010.
Fannie continued as matriarch of the family until her transition from life-to-life. She was a “Proverbs 31 Woman!” Creative, industrious, supportive, hospitable, and friendly, Fannie freely gave of herself and her resources to others. Fannie’s children, their children and their children’s children rise up and call her “BLESSED.”
Fannie’s greatest passion was for the Lord. In Maxine, Alabama, she received Christ as her Lord and Savior and continued her faith journey for over 60 years as a member of the Church of Christ.
Fannie was a caterer extraordinaire with a distinguished career as a self-employed wedding and event planner. She also worked as a preschool teacher for the Salvation Army for several years. An avid bowler she won national and local women’s bowling association trophies for her achievements.
As a member of the University Church of Christ, Fannie, fondly known as "Sister D", touched the lives of many as an active member of the church. She experienced great joy serving as Assistant Teacher of the Ladies Bible Class, Coordinator of the Dining Hall Ministry, a Zone Ministry host, and working on numerous committees including fundraising for the Southwestern Christian College. Fannie attended Sunday services and Bible study classes regularly until her health began to decline, She continued to support the work of the church with regular tithes, offerings, and prayers until the Lord called her home.
Fannie Parker DeJarnette departed this world on April 15, 2019. Her Life and Legacy of “Holding on to God’s Unchanging Hand,” will live on through her loving family: Joseph DeJarnette, Jr., Marva Wright (Nathaniel, Sr.), Jacqueline Mungo (Frank), Fani DeMoore, Barbara McHenry (Richard), Brunetta Beidleman, Geraldine Whitmore (Arthur), Raymond DeJarnette (Frances), Delores Lee (Ron), Glenda DeJarnette (János Löbb), Antoinette Clarke, (Maxey), George Felix (appointed son), Fannie’s brother- JD Parker (Sarah), and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, totaling over 100 members. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish her memory.
Fannie joins her husband, Joseph, Sr., in fulfilling their favorite Bible verse: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7.
