Delois Williams Obituary

In Loving Memory

Delois S. Williams affectionately known as “Lois” was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 31, 1928 to the late Ella Hoskey and Doc Sheperd. She was the seventh child of eight children. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, DocRoy Sheperd, Solomon “Son” Sheperd, Arnold Sheperd, sisters Katie Sheperd, Eugenia Valentine, Octavia Hickman, and Olivia Peck.

As a young girl, Lois relocated to Eufaula, Alabama to live with her mother and her aunt. She was formally educated through the Eufaula City School District. Upon relocating back to Cleveland, she met Jimmy N. Williams Sr. (he preceded her in death) and they were joined in marriage on December 26, 1953. To this union, two children, Patricia and Jimmy Jr were born. Lois was employed by the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, and continued working for the district for over 40 years.

Lois accepted Christ at an early age and she was a member of Christian Church of Deliverance for many years, under the leadership of Bishop John Harge. She was a member of the Nurses Guild for over 40 years. In her free time, she was extremely passionate about gardening her vegetables, and growing her plants. So much so, that if you were that if you were to come a little too close or step on her garden, she would yell out “hey, get away from my flowers!” Anything you think of, she could grow it. She loved to grow mustard and turnip greens, squash, tomatoes, and a variety of other fruits and vegetables. Lois was so proud and pleased with all her hard work and dedication that she put into her gardening. Her homegrown fruits and vegetables would always turn out so delicious that she couldn’t wait to share them with family and friends in the neighborhood. Some of her most delicious dishes were her peach cobblers, blueberry pies, and her granddaughter Jasmine’s most favorite, beef goulash.

Delois was very special to us all, loved by many, and will truly be missed. She was called home into eternal rest on September 4, 2019, and leaves to cherish her memory, two children: Patricia Wright (Henry deceased), Jimmy N. Williams Jr. (Anita), three grandchildren: Octavia Williams Poole (Carl), Jasmine Jones (Anthony), and Christian Wright, four great-grandchildren: Jaylah Jones, Jacob Poole, Caleb Poole, and Jaxson Jones, three nephews, two nieces, many great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other family and friends.

On behalf of the family, we would like to send our heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice of Western Reserve and staff for all their love, care, and support.
