Bertha Patton Obituary

Bertha M. Patton went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2019 at the age of 101.  During her long and productive life, she demonstrated in countless ways that she was a compassionate friend, considerate neighbor and loving parent.

Bertha was born in Birmingham, Alabama on February 18, 1918 to Annie and Guy Morrison and graduated from Fairfield High School in Alabama.

Before moving to Cleveland in 1950, she attended Atlanta’s Grady Hospital of Nursing and completed her nursing training at the Frances Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University.  Bertha’s service to the community began as a traveling nurse for the Jefferson County Medical Clinics for the surrounding communities of Birmingham, Alabama known as, Acipco, Evergreen and Collegeville.

In 1963, she married John D. Patton and became a loving stepmother to Carole, Edwin and Anthony Patton.

After many years of excellent service, she retired from the Cleveland VA Medical Center and from the Cleveland Metropolitan School System where she served as an instructor of Health Careers.  Bertha was a long-time member of the St. James A.M.E church in Cleveland where she was active in a wide range of church and civic activities.

After her husband died in 1980, she moved to Shaker Heights and continued her life long association with the church and enjoyed her role as a loving and devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.

She is survived by Anthony Patton, Edwin Patton and his wife Rozann, Grandson John Patton and his wife Valerie, Granddaughter Adrienne Lomaglio and her husband Gian, her Great Grandson Dante Lomaglio, and Granddaughters Jannise and Tracy Johnson.
