Dolores Malby Obituary

Dolores Marie Malby

Dolores (Dee as she was known to family and friends) was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Hazel Stewart and George Hooper on July 28, 1945.  In 1966 she married Curtis James Malby and to this union 3 daughters were born.

Dolores attended Notre Dame Academy in Cleveland, Ohio and studied at Ohio University.

She worked as a Cuyahoga County Corrections Officer for 25 years and achieved the position of Corporal. In 2015 she became an Associate with The Sisters of Notre Dame and was a faithful member of Saint Agnes Our Lady of Fatima church where she also served as Minister of Consolation. As a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver Dolores served the patients of University Hospital offering prayers and communion.

Dolores was a prolific scrapbooker and spent many hours creating beautiful keepsakes chronicling her favorite memories. As an avid reader, she was a member of many book clubs as well as a founding member for the club at her new home in Michigan. Her love of genealogy connected her to family across the country and in Canada.

She never turned down a Mitchell’s Salted Caramel Milkshake and loved a good restaurant.  Dolores always looked forward to the wonderful meals her God-Son Gavin Robinson would treat her to after Church on Sunday.  Watching tennis, the Hallmark channel, and Bones brought her joy.

Dolores had a passion for traveling: Canada, cruises to Alaska and Mexico, Disney, Universal Studios, Amsterdam, Paris, Amish Country… the list goes on. Her daughters loved Mom’s Mystery One-Tank trips including The Peninsula Inn, Blossom Music Center, and even a Prince Concert. Renaissance Festivals were a yearly favorite and she never hesitated to get in the car and drive to Michigan or Illinois to cheer on her grandchildren in their activities. In the summer she would host “Camp Grandma” and take her grandchildren to Vacation Bible School during the day while spoiling them at night.

She was committed to the cultural education of her children and grandchildren. The many museums around Wade Oval were well known to all of them. Taking her grandchildren to Parade the Circle was something she looked forward to every year. All children mattered to Dolores. She particularly loved the children at Saint Agnes.  As a dedicated volunteer for the OBAP Cleveland ACE Academy she encouraged young people to believe in and achieve their own potential.

Dolores is now reunited with her beloved Mother, Brother Sandy, Cousin Shirley Nelson and dogs Jerry and Max. She leaves behind her sister Carmel Martin-Fairey; 3 daughters Stephanie Johnson, Elizabeth Malby, and Karen Jordan; Brother-In-Law Donta Fairey; Son-In-Law Andre Johnson; 5 Grandchildren Brandon Malby (Morgan Mars), Brianna Jordan, Alexandra Johnson-Brown (Alexander Brown), Elliott Johnson, and Lauren Johnson; nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Dolores Malby was a true Leo. Her lion’s heart beat with fearlessness, courage, and determination. She was a Warrior who battled 3 types of Cancer over 22 years.

“I have fought a good fight I have finished my course…” – 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Dolores will be deeply missed. We are comforted that her faith was strong. On April 4, 2024 she knew she was going Home.
