Mildred Delois Agnew was born February 3, 1940 to the late Samuel A. and Ethel Agnew in Mason Tennessee. She was given the nickname "Bean" by her family. She graduated from Frazier High School in 1961. A few years later, in January, 1965, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio with her two brothers Willie Earl Agnew and James Thomas Agnew to live with relatives. During her years here in Cleveland she worked for several companies, including Ford Motor Company. In October, 1990 she married Willie Sam Jelks.
Mildred gave her life to Christ at an early age. She raised her family at Dawson Temple, C.O.G.I.C. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23 and her favorite color was purple. Mildred was known for her generosity and sense of humor; she loved to be around her family. Everyone that knew her lovingly referred to her as Mom. She loved to cook Sunday dinner, and she cooked the best greens ever.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 12 of her siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Willie Sam Jelks; brother James Thomas Agnew (Lena); five children: Odis, Cynthia (Jesse), Sharon (Darnell), Millie and Claudene; eight grandchildren: Alexis, Adriane (Gabriel), Darnell (Tameca), Aaron, Nekeisha, Rachel, Dominique and Taylor; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
